While we were at the beach house we took the opportunity to initiate Ke'alohi (she's on the left) into the "Local Babies" club by having her rock a diaper as her swimsuit. You might think that we did this because we didn't have a swimsuit; nope, we did it because every baby in Hawaii does it at one point in their childhood. We took advantage of being just feet away from the beach while eating at the Kaimana hotel to take Ke'alohi to the shore to dip her feet in the water and to play in the sand. At first she cried and didn't like the coldness of the water so then we tried the sand. Friday is still my favorite day of the week. Fridays mean that Lucas gets off work early and picks up Ke'alohi and brings her to my office. This week has been full of changes. It all started with Ke'alohi's six-month doctor's appointment when we talked about giving her water, solids and a sippy cup! I thought I was done with "big girl" things but then I remembered that we were starting Ke'alohi's new Gymboree class. Yup, we did it; we got Ke'alohi's ears pierced! After much discussion and consideration, Lucas and I decided that we did want to pierce Ke'alohi's ears now that she is young and we can take care of them. This way by the time she knows what earrings are and wants to change them as often as she changes her clothes, we will have less of a chance that they will have problems or get infected. Six months is half a year! I cannot wrap my brain around that Ke'alohi has been in our lives for that long already.
