Ash Wednesday and the Beginning of Lent

Today is the first day of Lent so our little family headed to St. Monica’s Catholic Church to go to Ash Wednesday mass.  St. Monica’s is one of my favorite churches for many reasons.  First and foremost, they have the most AMAZING choir at the 5:30pm mass on Sunday nights that even has a live band and it is one of the most stunning churches I have ever been in.  We stayed in the back of the church because we knew that there was a high likelihood that we would have to leave early because it was a late mass and Ke’alohi would get cranky for being up past her bedtime.  Thankfully, ashes are given near the beginning of mass so we were able to not only get them, but listen to the priest’s sermon.  He spoke so eloquently about what we choose to give up and actually suggested not only thinking about what we can give up but what we can do more of.

So for the 40 days of Lent, even though I would love for Lucas to give up overtime (in my dreams), Ke’alohi to give up waking up at night (I must be delusional) and for me to give up the DVR (just send me to an asylum), I am going to try to do more of something.  I am going to work on being a better wife by making sure Lucas knows how much I love him and being a better mom by making sure to read another book and play more with Ke’alohi every day even though there might be dishes to wash, laundry to fold and a mess to clean.

Hi I am just hopping by from the blog hop! I am a new follower! I am giving up Fast Food. It is a horrible weakness of mine! However I am also going to make more of an effort to go to Church every week! Hope you have a great weekend!
