Worst Mommy Ever!

Ugh, I feel like the worst Mommy ever.  Yesterday after we went to the park we went to Neiman Marcus to get her baby Toms shoes.  While we were there she was pretty fussy and seemed overly tired but I thought it was because of the teething and the long afternoon at the park.  On the way home, it seemed to get worse so we called the 24-hour nurse line to see if they thought there was a problem and if we should take her to the emergency room.  When we talked to them, the first thing they asked us was if she had a fever, and she didn’t; her temperature was 97.7 degrees.  They told that if she didn’t have a fever, she more than likely didn’t have an ear infection or anything wrong with her.  They said the fussiness and tiredness was probably the teething and to give her a warm bath and some Tylenol.

When I picked Ke’alohi up from the daycare today, I could see that things hadn’t gotten better and seemed to be almost a little worse.  She was so fixated on pulling her hair and scratching her neck, ears and head that I knew that something was just off even if she still didn’t have a fever.  I called Lucas and told him to leave work and that we needed to go to Urgent Care.  After we got there and checked in, her temperature still wasn’t bad and was only 98.8 degrees.  When we met with the doctor, she wasn’t sure either that Ke’alohi had any problems but said that she would check her out from head to toe.  First she checked her chest; fine.  Next was her right ear; perfect.  Lastly, was her left ear; the culprit.  Low and behold, she did have an ear infection and it had gotten so bad that it had perforated her eardrum.  I instantly felt like I had been crowned “The Worst Mom Ever.”  The doctor was so surprised that she didn’t have a fever and that she wasn’t crying uncontrollably from what she saw; our baby is quite the trooper.  The doctor gave us antibiotics to help with the ear infection and told us that the ear drum would heal itself in anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months.  Needless to say next time, if we feel like something isn’t right and even if they tell us she is okay, we are going to take her in anyway.

Hello, am your new follower on FB. Don’t feel so bad about it, my girl had stitches on her ear last month because she hit the corner of a table and that was when I almost wanted to hit my head against the wall for causing her so much suffering and pain. The thing is, we learn experience. =) Hope she gets well soon!

Ke’alohi is totally related to us! (Hmmm…..I don’t know if you think that is a good thing….haha) Uncle Kainoa had numerous ear infections growing up and it was ALWAYS his left ear. When my ear hurts, it is usually on the left side. We sure hope she gets better soon! You gotta love the Amoxicillian! We wish we invested in that pharmeceutical company!
