We weren’t planning on having anything on Ke’alohi’s actual birthday because we have her party planned in Hawaii next month but since we were in town, we decided to hold a little picnic with our friends to commemorate the day. It was a great day filled with good food and even better company.
Our friends Jenn and Jon brought their son Jacob down from Roseville so that Ke’alohi could spend the weekend with her boyfriend and boy did they have a ball. They both cried a few times when they were hanging out in the pack ‘n’ play, but I think it was because they were so overwhelmed with joy that they were finally hanging out. My hula sister, Kat, did an AMAZING job on the ladybug cake we had at the party. I think it was even better than the pictures I showed her of cakes that I thought would be cute for her birthday. She went above and beyond and we are so grateful to have her in our lives and that she put so much love and work into Ke’alohi’s cake.
As for the party, most of the decorations I did myself with the help of Lucas and Jenn with the finishing touches. We had red vines and black licorice in mason jars so people could snack on some sweet treats. A huge hit at the party was the peach sangria that Jenn thought of and made with Autumn before the party. It was such a hit that we actually went through a couple pounds of fruit and 10 bottles of wine! Lucas’ mom and his Aunt Selma were nice enough to bring rice crispie treats that matched the theme of the party. It’s no party without an appearance from Selma’s Cookies!
We ate great Hawaiian food catered from Rutt’s Cafe, just down the road from us. Everyone kept telling us how great it was and we are so happy people liked it. We had quite a bit of extra food so we were able to save some for ourselves to eat for days (I’m so not joking) and were able to donate the rest to a women and children’s shelter in Venice. When we were finally ready for the cake, I expecting Ke’alohi to dive right into it but she was actually quite “dainty” when it came to eating the frosting and cake. For the first couple minutes, she was only using her pointer finger to get some frosting and finally I had to help her by sticking both of her hands way into the cake to really get her into it. After that, she spent the next thirty minutes devouring half of the ladybug smash cake. She looked like she was in heaven.
All in all, it was a great day and Ke’alohi got a crazy amount of love and presents from all her aunts and uncles. Thank you so much for everyone that attended her birthday picnic!
Looks like Ke’alohi had a lot of fun at her party! She looks like a kitty cat with her smash cake. Btw, that cake looks amazing. Well done, Kat!! Mahalo!
