I can’t believe that it has taken us this long to go to the beach, but we have finally made our way to the surf and sand. I was not going to let us leave Hawaii again without going to the beach and having her rock her little Roxy bikini that Auntie Nalani got her. Since it was getting late in the afternoon, we decided that we didn’t want to drive all the way into town to Waikiki and risk Ke’alohi having a meltdown and not enjoying her time and then we would have to pack up and leave right away. We thought that the next best thing for us to do was to go to the tide pools that are just to the east of the famous Sandy Beach. Sandy Beach is known for their strong current, body surfing and boogie boarding. A lot of locals know that just to the side of it where there are a lot of rocks and coral, lie a very calm area that is great for taking small kids.
Just what we were worried about happening happened: Ke’alohi hated it! I was so disappointed that she did not like the water but I’m hoping it’s because the water was a bit too cold and it was too windy for her to enjoy it. She was okay with the sand and started playing with it after a few minutes but she was not having it in the water. She got especially scared when the water came up right next to her as you can see in the photo. The poor girl looked like she thought that she was going to die.
Hopefully next time we can plan it better where it is a bright, hot and sunny day where the water is calm and warm. I am determined that my little water baby will be a beach baby too!
