Ash Wednesday and the Beginning of Lent

lent

Today is the first day of Lent so our little family headed to St. Monica's Catholic Church to go to Ash Wednesday mass.  St. Monica's is one of my favorite churches for many reasons.  First and foremost, they have the most AMAZING choir at the 5:30pm mass on Sunday nights that even has a live band and it is one of the most stunning churches I have ever been in.  We stayed in the back of the church because we knew that there was a … [Read more...]

Mardi Gras Inspired Beignets with Raspberry Sauce

malasada 2

I'm sure when most people think of Mardi Gras in their 20's they are thinking of New Orleans, beads, parades and complete debauchery.  Well, we spent our Mardi Gras a little different and were at home eating jambalaya and our fake beignets/malasadas.  For most of our holidays since having Ke'alohi, I have been trying to think of little traditions we can do to make those days special.  So for this holiday, I attempted to make our themed dinner … [Read more...]

I Missed My Shot…

missed opportunity

I'm sure that everyone can agree that there are times in our lives that we miss an opportunity and instantly we want to hit our heads and say, "What was I thinking?"  I had one of those moments today.  As some of you know, I have been looking  for other mommy friends in Los Angeles to hang out with and have our babies play together.  I really want to make sure that Ke'alohi gets to socially interact with other babies near her age to help in … [Read more...]

Cornbread

This past Thursday was my grandma's birthday.  I had originally wanted to celebrate her birthday by making one of her recipes but then realized that I didn't have all the ingredients.  I made it today in honor of her.  When I was growing up, we made this whenever my dad made his chili.  It is so simple to make and pairs great with so many meals! Ingredients: 2 Cups Bisquick 2 Blocks Butter, Room Temperature 6 Tablespoons … [Read more...]

Project 52:7 | Noisy

IMG_0339

Motherhood is... noisy I'm not only talking about her lungs, I'm talking about everything "baby."  Have you noticed that the best toys are either colorful or noisy, and the very best are both.  Ke'alohi's favorite noisy toy is nothing we have bought for her, it's Duke and Harley's metal food bowls.  She loves grabbing them off the floor and banging them against the wall or the tile.  Though it's great that she can entertain herself with … [Read more...]

Just Plain Cruel…

photo 1

There are no other words or phrases that can describe what happened to me today.  My mom and I have a great relationship, and pretty much talk every day about what is going on in our lives.  But there is a dark side to this relationship because we both love to poke fun at the other one, specifically when it comes to our favorite restaurants and foods.  Many of our picture messages consist of food we are about to eat or have eaten, sometimes … [Read more...]

Happy Valentine’s Day

flowers

Boy, has Valentine's Day taken a whole new meaning this year.  Last year, Lucas took me to the Chart House for one of the best meals of my life and "wine and dined" me to my heart's content.  This year was a whole different story because all of us are sick!  Ke'alohi came down with another upper respiratory infection and I had to take her to Urgent Care yesterday afternoon.  I don't know who gave it to whom this time, but I have it also and … [Read more...]
