The White House

IMG_0535

Probably the most anticipated place that I wanted to visit had to be the White House.  I mean how can you go the nation's capitol and not see it?  I was bummed though because it would have been pretty cool if we had gotten to see some action in the house or on the lawn.  Maybe a glimpse of the First Dog, Bo?  We decided when we left the Archives of the United States of America that we were going to walk the 1.6 miles back to our hotel and … [Read more...]

Walking Around Washington D.C.

IMG_0520

If I could sum up our time in Washington D.C. it would be these two pictures.  Gosh my family is so predictable.  I love it! Dad & Lucas - Navigators, Always Looking at the Map Mom - Making Faces and Taking Pictures of Ke'alohi Kai - Starring at Ke'alohi and Wondering if She's an Alien or Kid (Same Thing) Ke'alohi - Wondering Who the Dude in the Sunglasses Is and Why this Old, Crazy Woman is Always Taking Pictures of Her    … [Read more...]

U.S. Navy Memorial

Navy Memorial

Across the street of the Archives of the United States of America is the U.S. Navy Memorial.  I was able to take a quick picture of it before we headed into the museum.  The Memorial honors those who have served or are currently serving in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines.  The Memorial was dedicated on October 13, 1987, after many years and Presidents talked about honoring the Navy's past, present and future … [Read more...]

Archives of the United States of America

Archives

After lunch we headed back to where the museums were and to the Archives of the United States of America.  In this building, no photography is allowed so I was only able to take a picture of the outside of the building.  The amount of rich American history that this building holds is unbelievable.  Once we entered the building we quickly noticed that there were no lines whatsover, which my family says is unheard of.  We literally walked … [Read more...]

First Time on a Train!

Train 1

Living in Los Angeles doesn't give us much opportunities to ride trains but since the Metro system is so great in Washington D.C., we took full advantage of it and actually didn't even use our cars the whole time we were there.  Kainoa wanted to go to one of his favorite Mexican restaurants that was on the other side of town so we all hopped on the Metro to get there.  Ke'alohi loved all the tunnels, lights and noises of the station and the … [Read more...]

National Museum of Natural History

Natural History 3

After we were done with National Museum of American History, we headed down the street to the National Museum of Natural History.  This was probably my favorite museum of the day because of all the cool exhibits and that fact that it was probably the most child-friendly museum for Ke'alohi.  You will probably recognize it instantly for the giant elephant in the middle and the dinosaur exhibit. The first thing that we all wanted to see (okay, … [Read more...]

National Museum of American History

IMG_0450

Once we were all checked into the hotel in DC, we headed to the National Museum of American History to meet my family who had already started their tour around the Capitol.  One of the coolest exhibits for me was right when you walked into the museum:  There was a whole thing on the history of Girl Scouts in America.  It was so cool seeing the older uniforms from before my time and what they wear now.  It's crazy to think that I am a part of … [Read more...]
